First 24 hours

I’ve been a smoker for 30 years. Have had a couple of successful quits, once for a few years when I had my son, then for six months more recently when I turned 40. Relapsed after a weekend away with my mum, LOL. So my relapse triggers are stress and social situations (hanging out with friends who smoke).

Started a new job and decided it was the ideal time to quit smoking, you know, fresh start & all. So I had my last smoke yesterday morning before work and so far doing ok, 24 hours down. Reading through this website has helped. Smoking motivation app on my phone is helping too. Feel confident about quitting as I know I’ve done it before, but less confident about relapse. Need a plan for that... but one day at a time for now! Excited at the thought of being a non-smoker as I hate it so much (as much as I love it haha).

One day at a time is a good way to start. At some stages I have been "just get through the next hour".

Having a new job is great too, and it will be fabulous not having to feel guilty being one of the "smelly grey cloud".

@Red-67 - how do you ‘stop thinking like a smoker’? That’s the bit I never seem to be able to figure out! I can quit and stay quit for months or even years, but I’ve never managed to completely stop seeing myself as a smoker. Anyway have bought that book people talk about, by Allen Carr, on eBay last night. Hope it will help me find the answer to my question.

52 hours smoke free (and counting of course!), feeling strong so far.
