Hello,

I am 5 weeks into taking champix but I am still smoking and still enjoying it too. My previous attempt of champix worked and I was smoke free for 11 months. I started going out drinking which led me to smoke again. 5 years on I’m quitting again. I remember the side effects were the reason why I quit last time. But this time the side effects are different. I’m angry and constipated and putting on weight. Last time if I smelt a cigarette I’d be sick but this time I enjoy the smell. I have cut down from one pack a day to about 6-7 possibly even 8 a day. Last time quitting came naturally without trying this time it’s harder. My question is it going to get any easier? Is champix going to help me quit this time round?

Hiya Champix, I gave up four years ago when I went on a journey to the UK using Zyban, the long plane trip made the first hours easier. This time I ordered numerous Nicorette products and decided to stop all together next Tuesday when they arrived. They arrived yesterday at 1pm, ok, that was the last cigarette for me. I have applied the patch and my go to instead of a cigarette is the Nicorette Mist, I am finding this really really effective. From my memories of Zyban (similar to champix), is that will power is what makes you quit, Zyban, Champix or Nicorette aids are there to assist you. For me anyway, the thing I am relying on is my determination to not have another smoke and use everything else as a tool toward this end. I want my health, I want to save money and I do not want to be an addict, this is the driving force. I am hoping this helps you as much as it has helped me writing it.

Cheers Angie

Hi Kasey, Everyone's journey is different. Champix helped me immensely, especially in those first couple of weeks. I guess at the end of the day you have to really want to quit. Someone once told me you will know when the time is right and you will do it. I felt such despair, like I would never be able to do it! I am determined to stay smoke free. I only stopped smoking nearly 3 months ago after 42 years of being a smoker. It is the breathing that got me in the end. Asthma lead to early stage emphysemia and you don't realise how much you need your lungs just to function everyday until your capacity is limited. Nip it in the bud as they say..........

My quit attempts are falling flat. I lasted 4 days before. The patches wouldn't work on my skin as moisture built up under them. I used the gum and it stuck to my top dentures. I knew this would happen but I thought if I try to keep the gum at the bottom of my mouth it would be fine. I was picking the gum off my teeth for ages. LOL! I am thinking of having another go at Champix. I have tried it twice before and it upset me but it may be the only thing I can do to break the habit.
