Time to Quit

Having recently turned 50 I knew that I needed to make changes to my current lifestyle.
Being a smoker since I was 15, I know it isn't going to be easy. Luckily I have the support of my wife to push me forward.
I had tried patches about 20 years ago, however they didn't really seem to work as I had hoped. I did stop during the 3 months I was on them, but I had this constant feeling which is hard to explain whenever I would wear the patches. So I stopped and so did the feeling. But I did continue smoking after that experience.
20 years later here I am again, this time with guidance from my Dr. So he has prescribed Champix to aid in my quitting journey. If I'm being honest I can't really see how these tablets would work, so we'll see.
Being told to smoke as you normally do from the outset is an interesting concept. So here I am at day 8 of the first course and now on the blue tablets. I did my normal ritual of coffee and cigarette to kick start my day and the girst thing I noticed was the strong smell of cigarette smoke on my clothes and that my cigarette just didn't taste right. Weird huh? And the other thing I have noticed is that I am not craving another smoke and its been a good couple of hours...surely they can't work that fast.time will tell I guess.
Side effects of this medication. Having been on Champix only a short time I have noticed a couple of things
- Constipation
- Tiredness
- Dry mouth
Constipation I can understand a little as the body is making changes
Dry mouth is not constant but is definitely noticible.
Tiredness concerns me as I am a driver and with this onset of fatigue it does worry me somewhat. This I will need to monitor.
So anyway after all this typing I hope my next imstallment shall be positive .

Hey there EddyTee - I also quit on Champix and I love it. You will find on this site that each have their own ways of quitting, me-myself I needed some serious help and Champix was it. I am now over 12months quit.
I found I had horrific dreams, so real and terrifying where I would wake myself screaming. I was also tired but both of these passed.
I took the whole course and weaned off them at the end so I didn't notice any issues coming off them slowly.
I still cried, hated people, hated life, laughed ridiculously, ate everything that was not nailed down, was up and down like a roller coaster but of it stopped eventually - about 6 months for me. Others on here like RED were good after a few months.
Be strong, you are in control of this.

Welcome EddyTee, to this page...congrats on making a new start into your new lifestyle.
Your quitting regime will succeed if you want it to, so be positive about your goal, you can do it.
I have no advice about your method of quitting as i went Cold Turkey, but it sounds as it is starting to kick in for you with some great results, but for your dry mouth and Constipation, drink alot of water it will be benificial to you.
Tiredness i suffered from, i also hold a position where i am on the road alot, so during my travels i try not to get myself so comfortable and always gave myself tellings off...lol
We have put our bodies through the wringer over the years, so there is alot of adjusting to happen and for our bodies to get used to the fact we are not supplying anymore chemicals.
Stay positive and determined and be patient with yourself, you will achieve your goal.
Looking forward to your next installment.
