Preparing to quit after 35 years of smoking

Posted in Getting started
schedule 18 Jun 2017

I have been smoking for about 35 years on and off. I have tried cold turkey, nicobate gum, hypnotherapy, zyban and now i have set my quit date for 7/7. I am going to GP to try Champix. My mum just passed away recently from lung cancer :( I don't want to go down that path. I live alone and would like some advice and strategies from others to help me to prepare myself so i can succeed this time :)

Good morning Tracey , congratulations too making the first step, it's always the hardest due to failure, humans hate failure and have the ability to dwell on negative experiences , by thinking that way you've sabotaged yourself even before you've ever started and that's the addiction taking control, and sweetheart you've said no more I'm taking control , you've spoken too you're doctor and he's/ she's put you on champix, and that's how I quit using champix, the first week I was on it I still smoked and it wasn't until the end of the second week that I started to notice it was working, each cigarette I had started too taste foul even the smell , they tasted that bad I just quit on the 19th of June 2016 , even now when I walk past someone smoking it makes my tummy churn, I did the full coarse as my doctor advised me too do so as doing the full coarse you stay quit for life , another suggestion Tracey is contact the Quitline they will arrange times they will call you or you may call them anytime you're struggling, they teach you coping strategies and they can talk you out / through a craving , but the biggest bit of advice I can give you is that you really really really want to quit , you will quit , and by what I have read you're at that very point, it's hard the first few days but it wanes and you'll find yourself at 1 day then 1st week and 2weeks and all of a sudden you're at 1 month anniversary then 12 months, find that mongrel in you and you're stubborn side the aid of champix and these resources you too will be a NON SMOKER,
