Ok, I know I need to stop smoking , hate everything about it ! Don't know where to start. Bought patches, but they are not working.

My son won't speak to me until I quit smoking. He has been desperately trying to get me to stop many years so this year he presented this ultimatum to me.

Don't know where to start, stressed out and just want to smoke more.

Must keep trying !!

Hi Pammymess,

I wish you every success on your quit journey but you must be strong. It is going to take a lot of hard work from you for the first 3 months regardless of what aid you chose. I used patches and am quit nearly 5 months now - but make no mistake it was terribly hard to do even with the patches.

Be aware that to have the enormous strength, diligence and will power to get through this the quit has to come from you - YOU have to want it - and I mean really want it.

My partner continues to smoke and as much as I don't like it - its his journey. I cant tell him when to quit or how to quit as he'll have to be the one to fight HIS addiction - I cant fight it for him. I chose to quit for myself and I endured the hard yards for myself. My quit came from me...

Good luck Pammymess - if YOU really WANT to quit then you will find a way... (and we'll all be here to help you along your journey so keep posting regularly) :o)

Hi Pammymess, you're already on the road to quitting by admitting you hate everything about smoking. I do too! Can't really think of one good reason to continue. I'm on day 4 of taking Champix, with my chosen quit day next Monday. Still smoking, but less than normal because it's on my mind that I'm determined to do it this time. Stopped for eight months a couple of years ago then stupidly started back on them.

Champix works for me, but you still have to have the determination and willpower to quit. I also found that e-cigs help...just a couple of drags is all it takes to get beyond the craving or moreso the habit. Good luck.

Hi Pammyness, I just watched the video on YouTube of Allen Carr quit smoking and it was amazing, try and find the time to watch the hour long video it put some many things into perspective for me.....hang in there!!

Thank you sooo much everyone for your support and advise. Today I started with trying to have 1 per hour !! Morning coffee I did have 2 ( as I find that is one of the most difficult time) but since have only had 1 per hour. Don't know what sort of quitting method this is? As I find the thought of cold turkey overwhelming , but at least I feel I'm contributing something on the road to quitting. Good luck to everyone who is attempting to beat this addiction and congratulation to all who have quit regardless of how long. Thank you.

Hei Pammy, guess you have many arguments to quit... That helps.... The next step is to really stop... It helped me that I actually threw away the cigarette packet. There was something very definitiv on it.. As well as actually not smoking... (not just wanting to stop, but actually stop..) Withdrawal symptoms will come.. But you can survive them.. Read some of the journeys, there are many ways to cope with them... (lolies, sport, yoga etc...). For me the best is really to take one at the time... Don't think about being a non smoker in 2 month time... Its scary... Just think of today-I am not going to smoke... And every day makes you stronger... Good luck..

Hi Pammy...you can do it, just gotta let go of that comfort zone and face a new way of life as a non smoker.

Have the confidence in yourself, be positive n determined and very focused on your goal and you will suprise yourself.

Set yourself a goal...mine was and still is saving the money that I would of spent each week...so each Monday as it was my buying day I put $120.00 away in a safe place, at 69 weeks I have a lovely nest egg...just need to decide what I want to spend it on..new kitchen or bathroom...

I was a 60+ @day smoker for 46 years, just went cold turkey. White ox rollies.

Never thought I would get to where I am now, but just severe perseverance in my mind games and extreme determination.

But you can do it. The world is yours with out smokes, go for it. Believe in yourself.
