The closer I get to my quit date the more I smoke per day! I think I am fearful of failing again, people will not believe me soon as I keep trying and failing, even after my last attempt when I lasted for 3 months. Also because I have a quit date my head keeps telling me to smoke as soon will not be smoking any more, I know that is stupid but I do it anyway! No self control so how do Iexpect to stop when I can't even reduce smokes per day!

Hi JenQuit, have faith as long as your head is in the right place, you will be OK.

My journey has included Champix, however, till the day I stopped smoking, my smoking habit had not changed at all.

I woke the morning of my quit date and just did not smoke, don't get me wrong it was not easy in fact that first 24 hours were horrible, especially between hours 22 & 24, but I did it.

The nicotine is one thing but just stopping yourself from actually picking up a cigarette and lighting it is another thing altogether.

Read all the different posts we are all going through the process, everyone has a slightly different path they follow take inspiration from wherever you can and take one hour or day at a time.

This site I have found to be a great support and resource, use it.

Wishing you all the best on your journey

JenQuit, breath. You are going to be fine. Trust us on this, we have all been through it and will be right here with you. You've already started your story, never mind everyone else, this isn't about them it's about you. Don't tell them! Keep it to yourself and your support team here at icanquit. Write your story daily at the time you would normally smoke your first cigarette. Read other's stories at the time you would normally smoke and most important of all, Jen, have faith in yourself. We have faith in you and will be with you every step of the way. On day one take it one hour at a time, then increase it to half a day at a time and so on and so forth and before you know it, you will have stopped for a week, a fortnight or more. Storm is right, read all the posts. One chap on here has stopped taking drugs and smoking and has made it through, his life has begun. Everyone on here is amazing, they each tell their story and it's incredibly powerful. Have as much faith in yourself as we do and trust yourself.

You can do it because you have done it before. Think of tobacco as a poison and no benefits at all.

the fighting and wrestling with our insides is a very important part of getting to place where we can just surrender, doesn't mean its easy to quit once there, but I do believe we have to ware ourselves out 1st, I know I did.

Jen, I am in the same place. All I can do is try. I know I deserve to live free without the addiction of smoking. I'm quitting in two days. I made a list of reasons I want to quit and I'm going to carry it with me until I don't need it. Lets just try Jen. You deserve to live without cigs too

Thanks for all your advice. I had to postpone my quit date as I just did not have the courage at the moment. I still want to quit so I am setting up a new plan of attack. Once I have that worked out and feel the strength returning I will set a new date. I know it sounds like a bunch of excuses and it is, but I have to have a plan that I can work with. I had 2 falls in 3 days so doing daily dressing to numerous wounds and it has left me a bit hypervigelant every step I take.

Hi Jenquit, I was just wondering how you were doing? Are you on the mend?Don't be hard on yourself, you're just feeling the fear, as all of us have done when we decide to stop. You are stronger than you realise and far stronger than the nicotine git. If you're finding excuses, you're not ready to quit but don't be discouraged, you will be one day soon. Keep your chin up and take care of yourself.
