One unsmoked cigarette at a time!

I have only just had my last cigarette 2 hours ago and already I am going crazy. This is my third serious attempt to quit in the last year and I am determined to do it this time.

I am trying to keep a list of things to do when I get a craving because all I really want to do is go to sleep!!! Has anyone else felt like that...I just want to sleep ALLLLLL the time.

Anyway, I am giving up alcohol and caffeine as well and trying not to eat too much as the last time I quit smoking for 3 months, I put on 10 kg's and haven't lost it. I am currently the most overweight I have ever been but don't want to use that as an excuse to start smoking again. I have chosen a very busy and stressful time to quit...all or nothing I say...goodbye cigarettes. Fingers crossed and hanging on for dear life!

Wow, you go girl! You are way stronger than nicotine - push him back hour by hour. He gets weaker and weaker and you get stronger.

I was sleeping on and off for 3 days, on top of that, I have chronic back problems that smoking used to mask and now I feel every pain in my body.

I hung in there and eventually my body started to manage the pain, with some prescribed medicine from my doctor to help with severe cases of physical pain.

As the days passed, it got easier, but to start off with I slept a lot, I suggest you take time off work or some sort of holiday to gain rest. I find the best way to control weight is not through diets but portion control, eat whatever you like within reason just never let your stomach notice you have eaten.

You don't need heavy exercise, although exercise is good to do, the best form of exercise is walking. Walk your dog, or just go for an early morning stroll before you eat, hydrate, then eat breakfast. (rinse and repeat throughout the day).

well, that is my experience anyway hope it helps you and don't give in or give up.

Yeh the smokes make us crazy and sometimes we just need to get through another day white knuckling, sleeping and for me I did lots and lots and lots of walking. Every time I wanted to smoke I went for a walk

Thanks for your advice and encouragement. 8 hours now.....I thought about buying a pack and stopped myself. I do feel like I am going crazy and like I can't do anything. I have a lot of work to do for Monday but I am just sitting here NOT smoking. Hoping I can last until bed time and then tomorrow will be easier.... I am reading a lot of stories on here. They are very inspirational.

The first couple of days are tough, there's no denying that but slowly and bit by bit you notice the "smoking times" less and less. I'm on day 3, its not as bad as day 1. Try to do something else, colouring in or knitting or walking. Try each and see what works for you. We are all here with you, perhaps at different stages but we've been there so keep messaging as much as you need. Tally up the number of cigs you've not had and feel proud of each and every one. Sleep, your body is now healing itself. Be kind to yourself

Well done! Most here have already said what I'm thinking, so I'll just wish you the best of luck....take a day at a time, you can do it.
