Day 35

Posted in Getting started
schedule 25 May 2016

I am 35 days smoke free. I used Champix and found the side affects to be extreme. I decided with my doctor yesterday that I would stop the Champix and hope for the best. Any advise on how long it takes for Champix to leave our systems and what I can expect over the new few days.

schedule 25 May 2016

Hi Maggie1180, the mediator posted a day or two ago with a web address re Champix. Today I have been on and read the information from what I gather Champix is not addictive therefore in theory there should be no adverse effects. 35 days smoke free the nicotine should be out of your system, so I imagine that your (& my) biggest issue will be our mind, I am 71 days smoke free and everyday I think about smoking.

I realize that thinking about smoking although annoying is OK, I just need to use my willpower and not smoke. As always I take one day at a time and hopefully soon I will stop thinking about it, but I did smoke for about 47 years, so I guess it might take a while.

Good luck hang in there

schedule 25 May 2016

Hey Maggie & Storm. Have you tried Allen Carr's Easy way to stop smoking? It helps the psychological side of stopping. As you have already stopped smoking then you are half way there. I found it really useful. You can buy it on e-book/Kindle or paperback. Once you've got through the nicotine leaving your system, it really is then down to mind over matter. Try it, if it doesn't work for you then the worst you've lost is the cost of a book.

schedule 25 May 2016

Stay calm - exercise junky, walking, yoga perhaps?

Really, there is no nicotine in your system any more so you should be confident of not having any cravings.

There is nothing to fear except fear itself. Just get rhrough the day and BE HAPPY, you've achieved so much 😊

schedule 25 May 2016

WeeWillem is right. You have done the hardest part. Be proud of yourself, it's now all in your head, this is normal and you can confront the fear. Treat it like someone you've been trying to get out of your life. Take control and close the door on him/her. This person has no power over you unless you let them. Stay strong, feel the power you wield.

not sure I believe the nicotine is out I am still coughing the crap out of my lungs wish I could get more out so 57 days I say its still in there.

not a Dr but I see evidence :(-

but yes don't want to sound like a broken record but smoking wasn't my problem it was a symptom of my problem and my problem is in my mind , yes that's a blanket statement , so we smoked for pain relief and that's a medical fact, so solution deal with the pain>??>

every human alive has pain physical/emotional - so why do some smoke and some not smoke? guess we found smoking worked.

so how to deal with the feelings that come up after stopping :)

use another drug, use other distractions, you know food, spending...add to the list as you wish :(

I subscribe every human being is addicted to something , so for me I go for the lesser evil as I have recovered from other addictions, smoking the last real bad one to go and sugar a new one for me, seems really the last ingestion type addiction I now have to deal with, spending is another, you know "stuff" addiction.

so what's the total answer to be totally addiction free, not sure there is one just work on the ones that kill 1st and work down from there and remember to enjoy the journey and that we are human , not saints or God's and well we are going to make mistakes and its OK !!

so my point is yeah we all have stuff to deal with but don't forget to have some fun :)

schedule 26 May 2016

Medication although does help with cravings will not change the way the mind thinks about nicotine or the emotional reason why we took it up in the first place. I use to suffer with major depression and serve anxiety from the age of 16 medication did help for many years but did not change the reasons why I would become so depressed or anxious it wasn't until i took the time to work through and challenge the emotional, psychological and environmental factors that I have now been off any medication for some years. It is not easy to not rely on medication but we can recovery and live a life with the support of others and exploring all the options we have available. As with mental health we are all different yet strangely the same no different than with smoking. All the best with beating this addiction. The mind is a powerful thing both incredible great and scary at the same time. We can do this, others have so can we. We are not perfect be boring if we were and we do not fail it is only feedback to learn for next time.

Thanks everyone for your feedback and support!! Agree mind over matter :)

schedule 26 May 2016

So true Maggie1180. Remember by smoking we are having a 'love affair' with nicotine and its time to say 'see ya mate you don't satisfy me anymore'. Everyone has a different story when giving up but sometimes we get tips that can help us smoke free. I have and the support is brilliant. Keep up the good work.
