Day 2

It's my first day of being smoke free today. I am determined never to buy another packet of cigarettes. Zyban has helped me a lot. In the past two weeks I went from smoking 20 cigarettes a day to smoking four. When I got to four a day, I realised that I probably no longer had a strong physical nicotine addiction any more but I am psychologically addicted. I am determined to take control of my life and not let smoking or anything else take that control from me.

All the best Suszan. It sounds like you are absolutely determined to this. Please keep us informed of how you are progressing.

Thanks, Threds. I sure am determined. In the words of our ex Prime Minister, Tony Abbott; 'You bet you are. You bet I am.' :)
I will be sure to keep you up to date; through all my ups and downs. Thanks for everyone's ongoing support.

Yeaay, the first day is probably the most significant and the scariest of all. Minutes, hours and days which follow will serve to empower you to keep going. Meanwhile, when you visit this site, take the time to read of others' stories that relate to your situation. You will be pleasantly surprised because the messages speak the language you will truly welcome.

Thanks Lia. My first day of being smoke free was surprisingly easy compared to my attempts to stop smoking in the past. I think this site and everyone's stories I have read have helped a great deal as well as my determination, my GP's ongoing support and the use of Zyban. I am reading people's stories about how they 'slip up' at the moment. Very helpful as they make me aware of danger times in my own quest to stop smoking for good.

Hi Suszan, congratulations on your quit. I used Zyban and I think it was really useful - it does NOT take away the psychological cravings but it buys you time from the physical cravings. This is not an easy journey but it does get easier and easier and the strength you build in those first two weeks of resisting will change you for the better. Then, after all the trials and tribulations (and they still happen months down the track) you will find that there is absolutely no excuse for having a cigarette because you simply could not bear going through this again.
Have courage and patience and you'll get there. Good luck.
