Quit Date Is This Monday

I've just been to the doctor and he prescribed the Nicabate P 21mg/24hr patches. Before giving up cigarettes on Monday I am also giving up marijuana smoking as of tomorrow as well. I am so stressed about it but know it has to be done ... on both counts. The doctor also prescribed a week worth of valium ( 5mg when required at the max of 3 times a day).
Is there anyone giving up doing the patches method? What can I expect of the patches? How long do they take to start working? What side effects can I expect? etc

Take the patch off before you go to bed other wise you'll have really scary and weird dreams.

Hey,I haven't used patches but did use the gum which was awful, just grabbed the bull by the horns.I had withdrawn from anti depressants before and knew it was a matter of whitelnuckle and loads of support.Otherwise every time it got rough you continue the circle, its tough but totally do-able Stay strong 💪

Good luck Jay Kay, it's many years since I used patches and gum. Keeping them on overnight stops that morning urge. I do remember getting vivid dreams but not necessarily scary, everyone is different. Actually I've had them every time I've quit no matter the method. Perhaps just see how you go as per docs instructions and take it a day at a time, then see the doc if you get any adverse symptoms. I'm glad you got the Valium as getting off weed as well it'll just help take that edge off.
I found the nicotine replacement did help me to deal with the psychological aspects before the nicotine aspect which is the idea (as you'd know :) and I did quit at the time and stayed off them for 13 years. My experience is believing you're worth it, you deserve to be free of addiction and having a healthier freer time of it. All the very best to you

I have been smoke free with the patches for 42 days. I was having trouble with the patches also- and have ended up taking them off in the evening. The most negative thing for me is the skin sensitivity. My skin looks like a patchwork quilt - but the older ones are fading and I am using an itching cream on the newer spots. Anything is better than smoking!!!! My program was 6 weeks on the 21g patches, then step down to 14 g , then step down to final. I knew I needed to have the longer approach, because the longest I have ever stopped smoking was 6 months. I don't want to go through this again, so this is my FOREVER QUIT!
Good for you on quitting! One day at a time, one minute at a time, you can do it!!

I am on day 7 and for the first few days found it really easy. But then on day 4 I found I was struggling with cravings even with the help of nicabate tabs. I caved in one night and had a cig that I had left in a packet.....yuk, it was horrible! Yesterday because I was still struggling with the cravings I decided to check out this site and joined. What a great forum for support and sharing stories. I found out that what I was going through was totally normal and other people had experienced exactly the same and come through the other side. Thank you all for your inspirational posts, I now know that when I have a weak moment and think I am going to cave I can just jump on here and regain my willpower!
