All in the mind

I am 32 and have been smoking for the best part of 15 years. Thats HALF my lifetime so far. I think about over that 15 years the amount of money i have waisted and the damage i have done to my health along with that when i spark a smoke i realise i don't get any enjoyment out of it. I am smoking just because i smoke and there is no other reason. I light a smoke when i drink alcohol or when i have a coffee and have assiciated these two things as going together. I have brought smoking down to part of my personality in which i would not be the same person if i didn't smoke which is totally false. I am stopping smoking cold turkey as i understand the it is an addiction to nicotine so NRT is not for me. I have attempted to stop many times and now have a clear understanding of what prompts me to smoke so i will avoid these for now. To feel as unhealthy as i do at 32 is a good enought reason for me to stop.

The great things about knowing ones self is that it is truly all in the mind. The cravings seem to go forever!!! but in reality by the time you have finished reading the post above the craving should almost if not already be gone. I'm gogn to own these cravings and treat them like a child. . If a child screems and get attention it'll continue to screem as it is getting a result however, if it's ignored then it begins to stop trying as it's not geting anywhere. MIND OVER MATTER

Loved it when you wrote: I'm going to own these cravings and treat them like a child...

Personally, I'm sick of being owned by cigarettes. The thought of owning my own life again (including the cravings) is inspiring...

Thanks mail2pam, It's true in a way though. . . knowing it's there but not giving it the attention it seeks i think is a good way of moving on.

I'm also sick of being owned by the ciggies and feeling like it's part of me when it is not.
