i am 50 and this is my fourth or fifth and FINAL attempt to quit smoking for good...i had a diagnosis of emphysema 3 years ago and have just not been able to quit even with the bad news, so i am just making it worse for myself....anyway i started on champix last week and my quit date is next monday...i am so nervous, i just dont know if i am going to be able to do it, even though i want to quit so much... i would just like to get some support and good thoughts from people to get me over the line this week....i have found that reading peoples stories is a good thing to do when i get a craving thank you :)

Hi jayh - you most certainly can do it!!!! I am now 83 days smoke free after smoking a packet (or more) every day. I still miss it like crazy and reckon I could have one very easily but I don't feel like this a whole lot so that's a good thing. I am using a combination of nicotine replacement therapy including patches and i have an e-vap as well. I always smoked menthols so that is the taste I miss most but put mentol fluid in my e-vap (which has no chemicals or nicotine in it) so I can still get "that menthol" taste when I am really needing it. I have tried to not use my e-vap too much as I don't really want to replace one bad habit with another!!! Stay strong and remember that each day is a new one and even if you do get tempted you can start again the next day. I have tried a few things to help with my cravings which everyone says (drink water, go for a walk etc) but sometimes even these things do not help - I just try and take it one day at a time and wham I am now 83 days smoke free something I never thought would happen. In fact I have even stopped counting the days but still wear a patch every day as i don't want to go and buy a packet. keep up the great work - you can do it!!!

Cheers -

Hi jayh. MIne and my hubbys quit day, is today. I didnt think we would cope either. We had the last smoke in the packet last night. We made sure not to have any around us today. I also bought nicorette cooldrops. Just in case i went crazy. Anyway happy to report that both of us have made it through day 1. I think the biggest thing for us was that we didnt have any laying around, because as both of us said we could of easily had one. Anyway bring on day 2. We hope u stick to your goals and wish u the best of health.

jayh, Your story is similar to my first post here over 3 years ago. I was very dubious about quitting but I really wanted to.

What BullAnt says is correct - do not have any cigs in the house.

Anyway that first day smoke free was the first of many and I am pleased to say I am now an ex smoker.

I set targets. First, one week, then one month, 3 months etc then One year. Also support from others who are going thru the same situation which is why this site is so important.

Now after more than 3 years I have not spent over $20,000 on cigarettes.

You can do that too. I wish you every success.

Hi Jayah, you can do this, I reached 9 months smoke free on the 26th of March. I quit cold turkey after smoking 30 a day for 40 years.

Believe that you can and you will :)....I use the mantra NOPE..Not one puff ever...works for me. The other thing that has helped me tremendously is a online quit support group that i stumbled on when i first quit. This has been great as there is always someone about and everyone understands the dilema we all face while trying to quit.

Here is the URL if you want to take a look https://healthunlocked.com/quitsupport All the very best on your quit journey :) :)
