Champix

I have seen a lot of people struggle with Champix due to the side effects, but for me it is fine, and well worth more vivid dreams (I am not getting nightmares at all!). I have smoked for 17 years and have tried to give up loads of times before and my bodies physical reaction is by far the hardest to deal with, not the will to give up. Last time I tried, I went a day at work without smoking and was in tears by 5....
Today is my 2nd day not smoking - and NO physical reactions at all thanks to Champix. It is all down to me wanting to stop - and that is the easy part for me. I feel really positive, and hopefully things will go OK this time.

Good on you! I tried Zanax.I think that was the name.It was a few years ago & the reaction was disastrous.Got feelings of restless leg syndrome & feelings of electric shock throughout my limbs in the middle of the night. ANd I wanted to cry my eyes out.It could have put me in a mental ward.I just said, stuff this! I am not taking this S*** any more! But,thank you! There must be better medications out there that are far more superior for people trying to give up!

Can you tell me more about champix? I need to speak to someone like myself that is trying, well, maybe trying, to give up. It seems like we are being pressured by many people. Is it our will or are we being pressured by the brainwashed people that have become programmed to force us into it? We stiill have free will, but, the governments are forcing high costs etc for the right to smoke. WHat are your views & can you please give me a very good argument to myself as to WHY AM I QUITTING?

Hello everyone, I started Champix 3 days ago and already don't feel like smoking as much.
Eg, it's 1:15pm and normally I would have smoked around 6 cigs by now. I've had 2.
Nausea feeling constantly is annoying, bad nights sleep last night where normally I sleep like a baby and also had a slight headache all day! I'm determined to stick with it.
Stopped for 9 months on Champix few years ago but stupidly went back to smoking.

Hi All
499 days a non-smoker after +-30 of 20 p/day, I was on Champix for the full 3 months and was hit with the book of side effects. The 1st month is the worst with the side effects there after it eases off. For the nausea eat something before hand or nibble on dry biscuits, loads of water to clean your body from all the cigarette toxins. I nibbled on carrots(beta-carotene) and cheese as I could never smoke when I ate cheese. Try and stay away from sugary stuff as it could be a trigger to smoke. If possible try and do some form of exercise as it also helps to not focus on smoking. I picked up weight and its only now that I'm starting to lose - so don't stress too much about it but watch what you eat!! LOL and its very true that you rediscover your taste buds and sense of smell, it is amazing. Champix does help BUT your mind set must be right - you must want to stop! For inspiration go and google smokers lungs and print it - it is scary and totally disgusting! To be very honest - smokers STINK, even your skin smell of tobacco if you smoke and the cheaper the cigarettes the worse the smell.
Hang in there and keep BUSY, find a string of beads to keep your hands busy in a social setting. Every minute/ hour/ day that you stay away from smoking is a day you win back and add to your life!!
It is totally worth every bit of discomfort etc that you're experiencing AND you can come and go in any public place without the disgusting habit on your shoulder BIG PLUS!!!
GOOD LUCK and HANG IN THERE!!

Thanks all for your supportive comments. Day 11 and still going strong. Everyone is right - the will power needs to be there too, the Champix don't stop you still wanting to pick up a cigarette! It is you that has to want it not other people.
I also took on lots of comments about getting active, and my husband took me to his Bootcamp training last week... insisting it is OK... I am still recovering a week later. I cried for an hour and a half afterwards about how unfit I had become as a smoker, and I never cry! In a wierd way the session killed me but made my determination to suceed at quiting stronger. I do think though that I may need to build up slowly to my improved fitness (other than regular tennis playing and some sailing and skiing holidays, it has been 10 years since I have done something like that) - 6 days to sit down on the loo without requiring something to lean on to take my weight and yelling out with pain at the same time is ridiculous! Sadly I am stubborn, and hate failing/looking like I can't do things - so I am back again next week ... wish me luck! Advice to all - get active, but be more realistic than me if it has been a while....
In the meantime I am looking forward to getting that energy boost and my tastebuds back that everyone talks about. So far, just bad skin and bleeding gums but the grumpiness has definately started to wane.
Well done all of those that have kicked it and good luck to all those newbies (inc me) in maitaining their status as a non-smoker.
