tips on triggers

Ok set my date of 20th Oct to become a non smoker have my champix which I know will help with the withdrawals my concern is the motion of cig to mouth the natural way I grab for them in situations. I have purchased sugar free gum and lollipops to use instead of smokes do any others have tips on substition of cigs as I am concerned for the hand and mouth habit that has developed.

You'll be ok, there are heaps of things you can do with your hands instead. Lollies and gum are a great idea. Good luck..you can do it!

I understand completely how you are feeling! Take up a hobby or go for a walk when the cravings hit. Personally I use nicotine gum and it helps me.. eventually I will be off them too.. good luck!

Our quit dates are around the same time! My quit date was 11th Oct - 5 days without smoking...

Dear clee - You could do a couple of things.
Some people use a nicorette inhaler, without a cartridge in it.
Another thing I have heard of is chopping up celery and carrots into cigarette size pieces. Lots of them. And keep them to fiddle with and munch on when you have cravings.
An old bloke in a Children's book, keeps a pen hanging from his mouth. You could doodle with it while you are on the phone. Get one with one of those click ends. They are more fun.
Apply lipstick regularly.
If you need the hand-mouth action, sip on lots of ice in a glass. I have been making rose petal ice blocks as a reward.
Have something like popcorn, or nibble on sunflower seeds.
Get a recorder, or a harmonica.
Brush your teeth several times a day.
Taste your cooking as you prepare it.
Whistle sing.
Do not have cigarettes around to just pick up, without thinking.
When you think of cigarettes - think! Have I done something with my mouth recently? Have I done something with my hands? Is there some thing I could do with both?
I wish you well. All the best, Penelope.

Thanks for all the tips and support, I shall definitely utilise these. So far so good "I will be a non smoker" that's my mantra at moment, have decreased cigs dramatically, today is throw out all ashtrays lighters and any other stuff involved with smoking. There's power in positivity!
