Getting Mentally Ready

Been smoking 20 cigis for over 20 years now. Several attempts failed, mostly cold Turkey and once Champix. Last year I nearly managed 3 months. Then in October my dog died and I turned back to cigarettes to deal with my griev.

Now the time has come for another approach as I'm just sick being a smoker and wasting my money on my addiction. I haven't set my quit date just yet but ordered some Nicotine Patches and gums. Haven't tried these before so thought will give them a go.

Likely that I will spend the next few days with reading up on some inspirational stories & experiences and hopefully can contribute a success story myself later on.

I've been smoking at least a pack(25) a day for 35 yrs+ and I'm on day 25. I'm on the patch, I don't like the gum but I have a e-cig. I tried the champix a few yrs ago but made me nauseated and I had wild dreams. The patch is doing good for me so far at least I'm not sick but I did find I had wild dreams but that seems to be getting better. I still struggle some but that I expected, but it's getting better, I'm going one day at a time and hoping I will be free from that torturing monster soon. I also have saved 350.00 which is a good thing.. Good luck with your journey, I think if I can do it anyone can.

Congratulations Wicked One on 25 days, can't wait to get there. Just completed my 17th day as a non smoker and I feel really good. I have been a smoker for 21 years at a pack a day. I have made 3 attempts prior but succumbed very quickly. This time is different, can feel it. I am more disgusted by it and I am easily handling the cravings, which I could never do before. Simply, I don't want to die. I have a 3 year old daughter and the thought of leaving her behind keeps me focused every day. I also think of the smell, the money and the lack of energy. I really felt awful all the time. In two short weeks my breathing is better, the cough has disappeared and I have so much more energy. Yes I want to smoke because it's something I did when I was bored, or having a drink, or completed a task, while on a break, in -40 weather, in +30 weather, that's all I did and I was really good at it, too good. However, I never felt as good as I do today, Am I eating my body weight in food, you bet. I have gained the five pounds that everyone talks about but that's ok. I also signed up for a 5km race with my peers in 2 months. This gives me enough time to start training and try to become healthy. Carina, if you met me you would understand truly that, if I can do it, so can you. Good Luck Everyone, keep fighting the battle we will all be better off.

Plan your rewards as part of your quitting. They don't have to cost anything. You could go for a walk on day one. Make a fruit salad on day two. Give yourself a manicure on day three. But plan them out. Do something for yourself extra each day. Don't forget the time you'll save by not smoking. You could start reading a new book.
