schedule 5 Mar 2014

I am stressed financially by not just the cost of the smokes, but also the nicotine replacement therapy. I have tried many. It is so expensive. It is also expensive to cut down. I am spending $50.00 per week on smokes and $50.00 per week on medications. I can't have this and I can't have that. I need some help. My Husband smokes. We have started to have a long break betwen packets. I have a daily two hour break at home during the day. I like to have smoke free outings. A while back I realised it had been three months and the only place I was at home. I feel disappointed in myself because I have gone back to smoking about nine a day. Nevertheless, I have more control. The cravings are more like thoughts. Weary 'I don't care anyway' thoughts. When I am full of energy and posative self-talk I only have one smoke a day. I must learn to give up one a day. Today I gave up three. I am frightened of the mental obsession. One time I told myseslf that it was just a craving, that it would pass. The craving lasted two and a half hours. I was detiremined to ride it out on my own. It did open my eyes to my mental illness playing havoc. Some people say their cravings pass in seconds. Maybe I have that to look forward to when I'm a little bit better. At the momment I'm working on reclaiming my evenings. I sit quietly with a coffee inside each night. I try to work in my kitchen for half an hour. Also I am getting tired earlier. This is a good thing. I am less drowsy in the morning. The morning is my danger time. My Husband had Santa deliver a cappocino maker to our house and He makes me one each morning. I am looking forward to having breakfast, before I smoke. At the momment I smoke within half anhour of waking. I am looking forward to cooler weather so I can cook myself breakfast again. I did get to the stage where I didn't smoke till I was up for two hours. I am cutting down to quit. My goal is to get down to five cigarettes or less, then quit. However I need to include smokefree days. I have picked Tuesday in two weeks time. I will be putting lots of stratergies into place to practice for this date

hello penelopejane, i feel for you.

i didn't realise the NRT was so expensive as i have not looked into it at all. you would think the government would subsidise it or something and help out those who are struggling with quitting smoking.

i understand the mornings being your danger time. it was like that for me also. the morning routine, make coffee, sit outside and smoke, in the quiet before the kids get up. if not for how harmful smoking is, it was actually a lovely thing to do.

keep up the positive self talk, keep chatting on here, even if it is purely for your sanity, and enjoy that coffee!

:-)
