cutting down

Hello,
I am new here and would like to know if anyone has successfully cut down to quit. I have often been advised to just quit, but find it very, very difficult. I have tried different NRT's and haven't been successful. Maybe deep down inside I feel that I just can't or want to let this horrible addiction go.
My addiction is around a half a pack - averaging 8 a day. Lately, I have been making a concentrated effort to bring it down to 6 and beieve with support I can take it to zero. Any advice to help me would be appreciated.
Thank You

i don't think you can cut down to quit you either stop or you don't no half measures, why not try quit4good program it is herbal no drugs or chemicals failing that you could go cold turkey there alot of ways to beat the cigarettes but you have to want to stop well i hope you can stop i went cold turkey and have been smoke-free for 139 days all the best and good luck.

Hi stoprightnow,
I wish you every success on quitting. I am not sure if you can cut down to nothing but good for you if you can. I think it would be brilliant if you cut them out in one go . It is easier in the long run. But I understand it can be a hard , I would advise using some aid to help you, such as HRT they will still give you the weaning down experience.

"THANK YOU" very much for your help/suggestions/advice. I am interested in the quit4life program. While running errands today I began the registration process. I am going to leave right now and finish. I will back to let you know how I am coming along. I hope that I can continue to come here for support. It does a world of wonder for me and keeps me motivated to work on stopping this habit.

I am back again and am a littlto sign up for the 'quit4good' program, but when it got to the Profile Test page nothing appeared except the title. As I could not go forward from there and the back arrow (on the page) only led me back to my completed Profile page. I did not know what to do next. I then hit the 'Community' tab thinking I would be getting access to the Q4G Community, but it only gave me information about the site's Community.
I was able to post a comment and wrote that I did not
know how to use the site. I am hoping to get an email to help me. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank You....I'll try to sign up again

K8, here is the phone number for quit4good 1300784844 they are in sydney people who have used them have stopped smoking in 5 to 7 days so why not give them a call well all the best and good luck.

OK, but first I am going to check my email to see if they
wrote me back, then I am going to call that number- THANK YOU.
Funny thing happened last night...as I was trying to sign-up again, I kept pressing the site's back button(pointing L),when it went back to the Profile page, 4
profile names came up. Does anyone know if these are support people for me? It would be good if it is. Kindly bear with me as I try to get this going. So I'm off to my email, call the number and I will be back later.
You folks are GREAT!

Oh boy! I checked my email and I just got instructions on how to reset my password. I tried to call the q4g phone number using 'how to make a call to Australia.' It wouldn't go thru. Then I called the international operator and was instructed how to dial the number - it still didn't go thru and we got disconnected. Lastly, I left another email. So I hope they will contact me and I'll keep trying to reach them.

When I began to search for the quit4good program, there were several q4g programs being listed. I think I had the wrong 'quit4good' program that I was trying to reach.
So I finally got thru to the (Australian) q4g phone number above and it's program uses strips to quit - meaning it was totally different from the first program I signed up on.
Has anyone had any experience/success with this program?

I am back here again and haven't gotten anywhere. It is true, the cut-down approach is very difficult. I like one way cutting down was stated - "It keeps you stay in perpetual withdraw." I feel good that I can smoke only 6 a day, but I feel bad because this method makes me feel like I am constantly on a rocky boat...and I can't get off.
Yesterday afternoon , I braced (rather tried to brace myself for the quit. So I bought 4 packs of small hard candy and purposefully didn't smoke for 5 hours. And the medical people have it right...just about that time(after 5 hours)I could feel my chest tightening getting ready for all that the gunk to be coughed up.
Then I fell off the wagon and bought a pack...woe is me! So now I am trying to brace myself again for tomorrow. For all you guys that quit, I sincerely wish you the Biggest Congrats - this is quit task for me. I just can't seem to keep my mind focused long enough, but I have to keep at it.
