schedule 1 Oct 2013

Hi all, I have just joined this site as I have had many attempts at quitting, I have just set my quit date and when I did I felt instant nerves, should I have set a date, should I just start tomorrow (even though I am nor prepared) how do you seal with the week leading up to quitting? What did you plan and what actions did you put in place? Any help would be much appreciated

Hey Mum of 6 - first of all congrats on stepping up. I didn't set a date - I had been thinking about quitting for a while. I lit the last cig in the packet and as I threw the empty packet away I thought I'd best stop at the shop on the way home and pick up another packet. Then I thought 'No I won't - this is it!' I think if I'd set a date I would have talked myself out of it - it had to be there and then - it was the right moment. If you think you're ready hen just go for it. Good luck!

I just kept think9ing of all the good thing that would come out of quitting - extra money, better health. it made me feel more positive about at least trying to give up. I am on day 4 of not smoking (I am using Champix) and it is hard going but I am surprised how often I DO NOT think about having one.

Thanks guys, I feel anxious but ready if that makes sense? I tried champix and they made me sick so I am going to try both patches and inhaler together, it's time to get off them, I was amazed at the fact I spend $120 a week, my health and money will be my driving motivation and congrats to you both for getting as far as you have I look forward to the support in here :)

hi mum of 6 - if you can deal with 6 children I'm sure you will be strong enough to quit!!

Champix made me so nauseous I too had to stop taking them, so I am now on zyban and they really help lessen the cravings. Day 21 now after 40yrs smoking (and honestly a bit amazed!!)

I started by addressing my triggers, and just missing those cigs that I always had, like getting in the car, leaving work, first coffee in the morning. I didn't do them all at once, but just dropped those few important ones, then I could tell myself 'look you didn't die when you missed THAT cig'. Then I started stringing them together, so not a day at a time but a cig at a time!!

Lots of affirmations the week before, keep telling yourself you are giving up to get healthy, and keep coming back here for support everyone is great, and just reading others struggles and wins helps your resolve

sorry about the length!! hope it helps

Hi mum of 6 i think the more you think about setting a date is when you will slip up as we all know we always put obstacles in the way like christmas break ups, catching up with friends etc you will no what i mean its always something thats coming up. I dont know what method you are using to quit but there are heaps of alternatives out there for you so if you fail at one of them try something else and if you do fail dont beat yourself up about it just try again if you are really serious about quitting in your mind you have to be the one to do it omg listen to me rambling on i hope that helps you GOOD LUCK, and keep posting.

Hi mum of 6, congrads on deciding to quit, you will not regret it. I also was sick from the Champix came off it after the first month. Still going strong.

I was scared shitless starting, was really unerved.... did not think it was a possibility. I found reading posts here and asking questions really helped me stay focused. I breathed through the cravings, and drank water and by the time the glass of water is finished the craving was gone. .... they pass. Keep posting here, look forward to reading your posts.
