I walked in the chemist to get my prescription today, I stop and looked at the quit smoking ads pick up patch, but I put them back cause I didnt think I was ready! I got my prescription and as I walked past the patches again ,I stopped picked up one and went to pay. I had my last cigarette on the way home as soon as I got home  without even thinking about it I put on a patch and havent had a smoke since 9:30 this morning and now its 6:30! Ive thought about giving up so many times but never tried, today I took the first step. Im doing this for my self and a special friend who needs to give up she needs surgery at the end of the year to cut half of her stomach so she can start loosing weight. My main inspiration is my 4 kids I want to be here around them for a very long time.

I guess I knew its time.

Well done Becca, I think for some people it works better to just quit on the spur of the moment, rather than plan a quit date. I had half heartedly thought about giving up, enough to go and buy some Nicabate mini lozenges (they were the cheapest form of NRT I could find), and put them away unused. One day I just thought if I can finish this pack of smokes tonight I'll give it a try tomorrow. I did, and next morning kept thinking ok what's the worst that can happen, if I can't do this all I have to do is go to the shop and buy smokes. Got through the first day, and the few after by mentally giving myself an out if I needed it. Those long ago purchased nicabates were invaluable too, really helped with the cravings. Each day my resolve got stronger, I'm now over three months a quitter and feeling really proud. When I have had problems or doubts just posting on this site gets wonderful support and responses from people taking the same journey. All the very best, just get through it one day, one hour, at a time and remember that any cravings will only last a few minutes and you can be strong enough to wait for them to ease.
