I am so nervous...........

I am 44 and have never ever wanted to quit smoking. I am at that stage of hating it. I have been smoking for 35 years and I view it as a constant companion and a bad relationship I need to let go of.
My main concern at the moment is:-
1. What do I do when watching tv or relaxing at home????
2. What do I do when I have my morning coffee????
Ugh.... I would love some of your comments/hints and tips are sorely needed.
Thanks,

Hi nicky68, I quit 239 days ago after 40 years of smoking. One day at a time is what you need to do, I skipped my morning coffee until I felt I could cope, I took up walking to help with cravings, out I would go everytime I had bad urges just to break the thought pattern. I also took up water.......and allowed myself to substitute with lollies. I went cold turkey, you just need to fight those demons in your head.

Thank you SUZE.
I love kicking back at home watching TV lol.
Oh well lucky summer is coming so I can go on walks.
I have the straws, water, elastic band, lollies ready to go :-)

break the routine cut your caffeine intake, i quit cold turkey and have smoke-free for 59 days you can do it just have the right frame of mind and you can do it well all the best.

hi Nicky
I'm on day 15 now and was smoking for 40 years. Some of it is tough, during a craving you wonder how you will cope, in between cravings you think it is not that bad after all!!!
I still do my morning coffees, I couldn't give them up too, I just unclench my teeth/jaw and take some very big clean air breaths instead of smoking, concentrating on relaxing as I exhale really helped me (and some rescue remedy in my water at other times)
Still tough but getting easier as the days pass - coming here and reading others stories and posting and getting others comments /ideas has also really helped.
The support is great - you don't feel so alone and you know the comments are understanding as everyone here has gone/is going through the same thing
Another thing that helped was learning the cravings don't last much past 5mins - its easier to think about coping in 5min increments!!
Good luck and be strong and let us know how you go

I try not to count the days..I quit on 16th April how ever many days that is LOL but had been smoking for 38yrs at about 30 a day. Never thought for a minute I could give up. Took Champix after failing on my own...and here I am smoke free. I found the habit harder to quit than the nicotine tbh still do..I admit to having the odd one here and there...about 1 a month..but I dont beat myself up over it and dont get any hit from it either...my way of coping I guess we all different as long as we all reach the same goal :)

Habit is definitely ingrained.
I have a lot of work to do, replacing the habit with something.

Hi Nick 68. I am a 55 year smoker 145 days clean . if I can do it you can. It Seems to be in the head to a large extent but it takes a bit of effort but it is worth it. Hang in there, you will win out. Even tonight I was having a red and would love a cig but no way. Keep on line, it helps.

Changing your routine can help. Spend an extra 10 mins in bed then get your coffee on the way to work - no time for coffee or a smoke at home! Go for a walk after dinner rather than lighting up. Tell everyone your giving up and that you'd like their support. Keep yourself busy - my house has never been cleaner since I gave up!

Thank you guya. Started champix last week but had to stop. Terrible reaction... Anyway I have just arrived at my beautiful holiday apartment and have decided tmrw is the day!!!!! Starting with the patches and lozenges. Second go and I will hopefully have better luck. Im hoping a different environment would be a good time to give it another go. Fingers x'd

hey there nicky68,
Just keep focused, arm yourself with backups. water, lozengers whatever it takes to get you through. Its no easy walk in the park, at times its the biggest battle you've got to fight. But hey- we are all on the same quit road. The good times far outway the hard times, just remember, we are all learning to be non smokers after many many years of smoking.. Good luck and keep posting

Thank you for your comments. I cant even be a quitter properly. Still smoking... May have to try the Zyban?
