1 day to D day

Posted in Getting started
schedule 29 Jan 2013

It's the night before D day and I'm armed ready to start with the patches tomorrow.  Although I've told myself I have to do this and I know I want to I'm already feeling stressed about the thought of not having a smoke.

How did you cope with the night before?

You know what I did. I had my last smoke during the day, then set myself smaller goals throughout the day - saying "I'll go the next hour without a smoke" then when that hour was up, I said it again "I'll go the next hour without a smoke"

I found that you tend to stress more when you start a new day (knowing it's your quit day) - pretty much like you're experiencing now.

I read a different story on this site that had some really great advice and I think it should be put out there for everyone to read... It said - "I'll quit just for today - everyday".

Hope my advice helped xx and good luck to you Tracey J :)

I haven't given up yet, my quit day is next week Sunday, but I did find that I was smoking up a storm, as though I could put in reserve what I was going to miss over the next 10 (?) years. Are you on Champix? Why are you going onto patches? Or - are you only on patches. But - have just read Allen Carrs EASYWAY to quit smoking and I am seriously hoping that today will become my new quit day. Good Luck!

I think often the thought of giving up is worse than the actual process of giving up. Cravings will only last a couple of minutes and yet you can spend days worrying about how you're going to deal with those cravings.

Thanks for your comments they've certainly helped. Day 1 hasn't been as bad as I'd expected (I know it's not over yet). I'm just using patches and willpower (which in the past hasn't been strong) and unless today is a fluke I'm hoping they will continue to do the trick.
