the longest day ever!!!

Posted in Reasons to quit on 05 Jan 2011

Hi All

My quit journey started today...and 2.5 hours has seemed like forever! I have been smoking heavily for 5 years about a pack a day.

Last year i started expiriencing chest pain, pains in the left side of my body anxeity attacks, the slimey gug on the back of my throat when i woke up in the mornings was feral and the fact i cant really walk or run anymore cause im always out of breath. My smoking was costing my health and I saw my nan die suddenly from a heart attack and i dont want to go like that.

My Aim was to kick it on new years eve but drinking and being out go to me, so i decided on today and started wearing my patches.

What i am finding hard is....

1- walking through the city and seeing smokers everywhere its like the only thing i spot

2- surviving work all i want to do is get up go outside for 5 mins and have that smoke

3- not smoking in the car, i do alot of driving and smoke and driving goes hand in hand for me

I have tried the champix and i got heaps sick from it every side effect i got really bad.

Has anyone got any hints to help. and no i havent caved in....just been having lollipops as a replacement

hey, its been 2 weeks since I gave the smokes away and I can honestly say its the best thing I have done for myself.be positive you can do this, think of the money that you will save and your health how good it feels to be able to breath with ease rather then to wheeze. if I can do this then anyone can dont give in keep going be strong the benifits are worth it.

When you REALLY need a cig - reach for the Nicorette inhaler instead - it works like a charm!

hi sophia what ever you do dont go cold turkey otherwise you are leaving yourself open to depression like me yes you might be supprised it does happen because smoking is very addictive i must admit though i did suffer a heart attack as well.

Im a very strong willed determined person who once puts there mind to something wont let it go until the goal is reached. Why do I find it so hard to give away the cigs ?

Why don't you try listening to the Allen Carr Book "Easy way to quit smoking"
You can download the adudio book free through utorrents. It helps - even if it's just to take your mind of things.

...welcome to the club...do you know the word paradigm?...a paradigm is a way to see the world...for instance, i never noticed a white toyota cilica till i owned one and then i saw them all the time...i am the same as you in that when i go out and about i notice everyone that is smoking and i never used to notice....also, i can't drink a beer unless i am in the pub where i can't smoke anyway...i am only on day seven, but i am really glad i stuck to it and got this far...i refuse to give up now...good luck and good journey!!!!
