I woke up this morning after a reasonably late night last night (no ... very late night) and I just couldn't get over how good it was to have quit smoking. It felt so great to be able to be amongst non-smokers and not be the only person who needed to duck out. It felt so good to stay with non-smoking friends and not have to explain that I needed to go out for a ciggie. I think waking up this morning was one of the most positive experiences of this voyage.
This afternoon was tougher as I was over-tired and had to deal with some emotional fall-out. But I remembered what one of the old timers on this site said ; 'Move a muscle. Change a Thought.' So I went for a cracking walk for an hour and felt so much better. I listened to a podcast (Radio National : All in the Mind) whilst I was walking and it talked about the effects of sugar on our brains. It may as well have been about smoking. What was reinforced for me was that we have to keep on reviewing and looking at the reasons why we wanted to stop smoking. Focus can be hard to keep this far down the track so I am going to read all those reasons every day just so as I know why I have bothered to put in this effort.
I hope everyone had a great weekend.
